CCA 6th grade student Mallory Boyer and high school student Brookie Brown have been honored for their exemplary volunteer service with President’s Volunteer Service Awards.
This award, which recognizes middle and high school students across America who have volunteered significant amounts of time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama. CCA nominated Mallory and Brookie for national honors this fall in recognition of their volunteer service. They are each presented with a President’s Volunteer Service Award certificate and a letter from the former president.
“The recipients of these awards demonstrate that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities,” said John Strangefield, chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial. “By recognizing these students and placing a spotlight on their volunteer activities, we hope to motivate others to consider how they can also contribute to their community.”
Mallory works with other Christian girls and a local organization called American Heritage, and has logged over 170 hours this year doing various community service projects; and she will also be taking a mission trip to Haiti next month over spring break. She wants to show love and compassion to others less fortunate, and to grow to be the woman God would like her to be.
Brookie has committed over 500 service hours and has raised over $6,000 for the 26.2 with Donna to find a cure for breast cancer. Her interest is personal because her grandmother passed away from breast cancer. With the money raised by 26.2 with Donna, Mayo Clinic has already discovered a vaccine for one type of cancer - Triple Negative breast cancer. Brookie is very proud of her commitment to this cause and she appreciates how it has helped her grow into someone who can truly make a difference in this world.
We at CCA want to congratulate Mallory and Brookie on their outstanding achievements! We are extremely proud of their passion and dedication, and we know they are an inspiration to other CCA students.
